Shell has booked new deepwater production after bringing its Bonga North West subsea project onstream offshore Nigeria.
Six wells – four producers and two water injectors – are being used to tap Bonga NW which is now flowing through subsea pipelines back to the reconfigured Bonga FPSO which originally came onstream in 2005 as Nigeria’s first deepwater project in more than 1,000 m (3,280 ft) of water.
Production of up to 40,000 boe/d is anticipated from the new development managed by Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Co., Snepco, which operates the project in OML 118 with 55% equity.
Nigerian subsidies of Eni, Total and ExxonMobil partnered Shell on the development, which the latter emphasised used a significant amount of Nigerian expertise, as part of deliberate policy to build deepwater expertise in the country.
