Cosco Corporation (Singapore) Ltd.’s 51%-owned shipyard in Nantong, China has won a contract worth more than US $200 million to build a harsh environment accommodation semisubmersible unit for Mexico’s Cotemar.
The vessel will be built to the GustoMSC Ocean500 design and have the capacity to carry 750 people on board. It will also have a DP3 dynamic positioning system, and be designed for operations in Brazil’s Santos Basin, as well as the Gulf of Mexico and in the North Sea.
The contract was an exercise by Cotemar of an option for the unit, after it had been awarded two options in March last year when it contracted a previous hull.
The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 24 months’ time.
