The need for saltwater disposal (SWD) assemblies is expected to grow rapidly with the increase in shale production. SWD assemblies can use several pipe-joining methods, including threaded, weld/flange, and grooved pipe in addition to several non-metallic methods. Although threaded has been the traditional pipe-joining method for small-diameter pipe, this type of piping is not ideal for SWD assemblies because of leakage. Victaulic now offers plastic-coated fittings and the Style HP-70ES EndSeal coupling for plastic-coated pipe.
The Style HP-70ES incorporates a specially formulated and compounded oil-resistant nitrile gasket that has an integral central leg, which positions between the pipe ends for a continuous lined surface and lined pipe-end protection. The coupling withstands pressures to 2,500 psi, making it ideal for high-pressure applications such as wellheads and SWD assemblies.
The EndSeal fittings, designed for use with the HP-70ES couplings, provide an extra-heavy wall thickness and are lined with a tough, polymer-based plastic compound that protects the piping components and extends their life cycle.
