Presented by:
Riki Meier, director of operations at Cornerstone Acquisition & Management Co., is today's featured Forty Under 40 honoree.
Meier isn't afraid of a challenge. A year into this position at Cornerstone, he took on the challenging task of bringing the company's data in-house through the creation of a new data management system. Through hard work and support from his team, it all came together.
"Here I was, a year or so out of college, asking the firm to completely overhaul a system that has been working for them for the past five years because I thought I could do it more efficiently," Meier said. "Fortunately, I had endless support from my colleagues and the belief in myself that I could make it happen. After a few months of feasibility tests, we decided to make the switch permanent."
According to Meier, being able to listen to the concerns and feedback from his team is part of what makes a good leader in the industry because it builds trust and strengthens the company.
"Listening to other ideas can help you learn something new and can give you better insight on what others may be thinking," he said.
As a young member of the oil and gas industry, Meier believes that his generation's drive for adopting new methods of production and technology will be crucial to advancing the industry.
"You hear a lot about the negative headlines in this space. I see that as a perfect opportunity for anyone that really wants to make an impact in this industry," he said. "This sector is hungry for continued innovation, and I think my generation’s ability to adopt new technology and having the openness to disrupt traditional ways to do business will make this new energy industry more efficient."
