Howard Energy Partners (HEP) announced Feb. 5 that Richard Sherrill, who has more than 35 years of senior level executive experience in the energy industry, will serve as president of the company’s low carbon solutions division.
Sherrill has spent the last five years developing carbon sequestration projects through his company Clean Aire Partners (CAP), according to the statement from HEP. He also sits on the Talos Energy board of directors.
“With his depth of experience in project origination and development, his long-standing commitment to environmentally responsible operations and his proven track record of assembling and inspiring successful teams, Richard is the perfect leader for Howard Low Carbon Solutions,” said Mike Howard, HEP’s CEO.
According to a press release from the company, San Antonio-based HEP is finalizing two grants from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for the development of a centralized infrastructure to capture industrial CO2 emissions.
One of the grants is a $9 million CarbonSAFE (Storage Assurance Facility Enterprise) Phase II grant under a consortium that includes HEP, Talos Energy, the Port of Corpus Christi and the Texas A&M University system.
CarbonSAFE Phase II grants are target projects that would create commercial, geologic storage sites for CO2 with the potential to sequester 50 million metric tons or more of CO2, according to the DOE.
HEP owns and operates energy infrastructure assets in the south-central U.S. as well as Pennsylvania and Mexico. In 2023, the company completed about $800 million in growth projects, including a series of facility improvements to develop natural gas from the Delaware and Eagle Ford basins and renewable diesel along the Gulf Coast.
