Two continuous coal seams were encountered in the Hillview 06 well in the Galilee basin in central Queensland, Australia, by Galilee Energy Ltd. The coal seams measured 5.51-m (18.2-ft) and 7.15-m (23.5-ft) thick. These coal seams were thicker with higher gas content than encountered in previous wells on the lease.
Early gas desorption tests indicated the highest gas potential so far on lease ATP 799P. A total of 386 m (1,274 ft) of cores were recovered from the Betts Creek beds and Aramac Coal Measures, including 17 m (56 ft) of net coal and 12 m (39.6 ft) of net carbonaceous mudstone. Gas desorption testing is being done on 24 core samples, and results are due in Q1 2013.
Oil was also detected in the Toolebuc shale, and cuttings were collected for more detailed technical analysis.
A 2D seismic survey will be conducted to identify the next exploration targets, according to Galilee.
