Genel Energy’s frontier Hagar Qim-1 well drilled offshore Malta in Area 4 has failed to deliver.

The Noble Paul Romano semisub drilled the well in 450 m (1,476 ft) of water targeting an Eocene prospect at a depth of about 2,500 m (8,202 ft). The well has now been plugged and abandoned.

The rig will relocate to the Sidi Moussa block offshore Morocco where it is to drill the 300 MMbbl Nour prospect, which is rated with a 20% chance of success. A spud date in August is suggested by Genel, which said this wildcat could take up to three months to complete.

Offshore Angola, meanwhile, Genel reports that drilling is now underway on the Dilolo-1 prospect using the Stena Carron drillship, with the well expected to take up to five months.
