The Prysmian Group was awarded a contract worth more than US $100m for the supply and installation of submarine cables for a section of ExxonMobil’s existing offshore operations in the US. The scope of work involves the replacement of approximately 50 km (31 miles) of submarine power cables with increased capacity 40-kv ethylene propylene rubber submarine cables designed for water depths of up to 450 m (1,476 ft). The cables will supply electric power from the existing shore-based generating plant to offshore platforms. The turnkey project will be executed by Prysmian with the power cable being supplied by its factory in Drammen, Norway and installation to be carried out by the Cable Enterprise lay vessel. The Cable Enterprise will undergo modification work in 2014 to be converted to a full dynamically positioned vessel in readiness for the installation works.
