According to a March 31 press release, Shell expanded its R&D activities in Asia by opening a new, major technology hub in Bangalore, India.
Technical disciplines and specific expertise at the center include LNG, subsurface modeling, data analysis, engineering design, bitumen, distillation and enhanced computational research.
Up to 1,500 experts can collaborate on innovative projects worldwide in the 52-acre Shell Technology Center Bangalore (STCB). It brings together R&D staff who previously worked at separate locations in Bangalore. There is additional space for high-tech innovation and demonstration facilities, the press release said.
Harry Brekelmans, Shell’s projects and technology director, said that the biggest challenge is the timely development and deployment of the best and affordable energy solutions as the world transitions to a low carbon energy system.
STCB is one of the three main technology hubs in Shell's global network of R&D centers.
