BW Offshore Brazil confirmed on Feb. 13 that the bodies of the five deceased crew members killed in the Cidade de Sao Mateus FPSO explosion were taken to shore. Four are Brazilian and one is Indian, the company said.
Arrangements for formal identification and release to family are underway. Meanwhile, four Brazilian crew members are still missing and seven injured are being treated in a hospital, BW Offshore added.
The company is now in Vitoria, Espirito Santo, Brazil, with crew members.
Specialists are determining whether conditions are safe enough to allow search and rescue efforts to continue, the company said.
The explosion occurred Feb. 11 onboard the FPSO which was operated by BW Offshore and chartered by Brazil’s Petrobras. Now shut down, the vessel was working in the Camarupim and Camarupim Norte fields in the Espirito Santo Basin.
"This is a terrible day for the families of the men we have lost and our hearts go out to them. We remain determined to continue the search for those still missing", said Carl Arnet, CEO.
