2017 is a very exciting year for GeoTeric as it sees the culmination of more than three years of R&D transform what can be achieved in the GeoTeric application. Since its inception five years ago the vision for GeoTeric has been to enable a detailed and accurate 3-D earth model to be created quickly and efficiently from seismic data. GeoTeric is able to get the best possible images of the geology from the seismic data, enabling deeper understanding and greater insights into the subsurface.
In 2017 the company is greatly extending the Cognitive Interpretation workflow so that interpreters will be able to complete and “validate” the structural and stratigraphic interpretation entirely in GeoTeric.
Starting with the release in June, GeoTeric is introducing its Adaptive Interpretation technology, providing a new, much more efficient method for interpreting horizons and faults. Allied to this, it is also supporting more well-based workflows, including well correlations, lithology interpretation, seismic-to-well ties and property distribution. And it is introducing the ability to quality-control and validate everything in GeoTeric with the available data and/or the current hypotheses.
The Validate module that will be released at the end of the year has been developed with a R&D consortium to answer the questions that always arise when there are new features in the data, namely “what does it mean?” Using forward modelling, users can investigate and validate the causes of anomalies seen in the reflectivity, attribute or color-blended data.
Not only that, but Validate will allow interpreters to build a 3-D structural model as they are interpreting. This will enable the user to validate that the model produced by the interpretation is an accurate representation of the underlying geology without the need to construct a geocellular grid to have full confidence in the interpretation.
Color blending remains at the heart of the GeoTeric workflow, and Validate will interact with all elements of the workflow. All of this is done under the umbrella of Cognitive Interpretation, so the results are interactive and preview-driven and the workflows are structured with an appreciation of the central role of the geoscientist.
GeoTeric 2017 empowers geoscientists to seamlessly integrate interpretation and 3-D modeling by creating a single realization of the subsurface that captures the geophysical and geological information with much greater precision. As a result of this additional functionality, the user can fulfill a larger proportion of the E&P workflow within a single application without the need for the continual transfer of data between third-party applications. This refinement to the workflow improves efficiency, enriches geological understanding and enables an enhanced 3-D seismic interpretation and geological model.
