Shell has agreed to purchase there Multiple Application Re-injection Systems (Mars) from Des Operations of Aberdeen. The units mount on subsea trees and allow an operator to intervene without the use of divers. Mounting the unit on the wellhead allows companies to install pumping, metering, water management and separation equipment in the flow loop at any time in the well’s life. The company’s first two units went to BP for its King field in the Gulf of Mexico for the deepest installation of a multiphase pump and the longest high-voltage subsea tieback to a platform. Shell will install two of the units on its Bittern field on the UK Continental Shelf in 2007. The third will be installed on a tree before the tree is deployed to the sea floor.
