A major CEC focus is fostering dialogue, education, and collaboration on environmental issues in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, where Transocean is the largest deepwater drilling contractor.
Through a revised Environmental Management System (EMS) and partnerships with the SERPENT Project and the Gulf of Mexico Foundation, Transocean has demonstrated that good environmental stewardship requires collaboration and partnership with external stakeholders as well as a strong understanding of offshore operations.
"External recognition for our environmental efforts shows that all the hard work in implementing our revised EMS during 2007 and our partnerships with academic research and conservation initiatives are seen as proactive ways to enhance our environmental stewardship," said Ian Hudson, Transocean Corporate Environmental Advisor. "This award provides another opportunity to thank everyone in our company for their continued environmental efforts whether offshore or in the office."
The CEC receives hundreds of nominations each year across its entire award categories, and projects organized by clients, including BP and Shell, have been winners in previous years. In addition to Transocean, other award recipients this year included Houston Mayor Bill White.
