Matthew R. Simmons, chairman emeritus and founder of Simmons & Co. International in Houston, and more recently, the Ocean Energy Institute in Rockland, Maine, died August 8, 2010, at his island home in Maine, of an apparent heart attack. He was 67. Simmons founded the Ocean Energy Institute in Rockland in 2007. He wrote “Twilight in the Desert: The Coming Saudi Oil Shock and the World Economy” in 2005, alerting the world to a looming oil shortage. He traveled the world to discuss the ideas in this book, which was a Wall Street Journal best-seller.
