Ocean Point Terminals, together with energy infrastructure company New Fortress Energy Inc. started LNG ship-to-ship transfer operations at Ocean Point’s dock in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The first LNG carrier to the company’s Dock 8 arrived last week and will be moored for transfers on a temporary basis until permanent operations on Dock 6 begin later in 2023, according to the release. LNG will be moved from larger supply vessels to smaller ships that will then redistribute the LNG across the Atlantic region.
“This project significantly increases access to affordable, reliable, clean LNG fuel in the region to accelerate the regional energy transition,” said Todd Dillabough, CEO of Ocean Point Terminals. “It also expands Ocean Point’s business offering to customers, enables additional follow-on business opportunities, builds on Ocean Point’s significant contributions to the U.S. Virgin Islands over the last 57 years and positions the Company as a key energy logistics hub in the Atlantic Basin for LNG and both sustainable and green tech fuels of the future.”
Ocean Point Terminals is the fifth largest active marine oil and products terminal in the world. Located in the Caribbean, the company facilities the storage and global movement of crude, LNG and liquid petroleum gases, amongst other oil products.
New Fortress Energy owns and operates natural gas and LNG infrastructure. The company has offices in New York, Houston, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, New Orleans, Mexico, Ireland and Rio de Janeiro, according to its website.
