China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) has received official certification for the 30.55 Bcm (186 MMboe) of proven reserves of natural gas discovered in its Bazhong gas field, Sinopec said Aug. 23.
Sinopec said the certification represents a significant breakthrough of the company’s Project Deep Earth-Sichuan and Chongqing, and that it indicates further potential of the tight sandstone in northeast Sichuan, China.
The Bazhong gas field is the third Xujiahe Formation tight sandstone gas field Sinopec has discovered in the region, where Sinopec says it has 154.7 Bcm (943.7 MMboe) of proven geological reserves of tight sandstone gas.
The Bazhong sandstone gas, at 4,500 m to 5,225 m, is defined as an ultra-deep, tight sandstone gas reservoir.
Sinopec said it will continue geological evaluation of the tight sandstone shale gas reserves in the Sichuan Basin to expand the scale of reserves in the Bazhong region.
