Maersk Oil has finalized the appraisal well Chissonga-2 which was drilled down dip of the Chissonga-1 discovery well in Block 16 in 1,355 m water depth. The well was drilled to a total depth of 6,052 m. One production test was conducted in turbidites of Oligocene age, flowing 6,650 barrels of 36 degrees API oil per day on a 36/64 inch choke.
Block 16 is located in the Lower Congo Basin some 100 km offshore Angola in water depths from 200 m to 1,500 m. Maersk acquired 50% interest from CNR in 2005. Partners are Sonangol P&P (20%), Devon Energy (15%), and Odebrecht (15%).
In Angola, Maersk Oil also holds 50% operated interests in Blocks 8 and 23 in the Kwanza Basin with Svenska Petroleum (30%) and Sonangol P&P (20%). Water depth in Block 8 is up to 500 m and in Block 23 up to 1,500 m.
